Many of you may have heard of this disease or symptom from social media or a close patient person. Depression can be caused by numerous factors, such as chemical abnormalities in the brain, behavior, heredity, attitudes, or environment, which may have a long-term impact on lifestyle, both physical and mental health. This symptom also reduces work efficiency. There are various treatments to alleviate or relieve depression, including deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) and psychotherapy. If the symptoms are severe, modern medicines must be used for treatment. Most anti-depressant drugs that are used to treat depression have quite a lot of side effects [1]. It is essential to find alternatives to alleviate or treat depression with fewer side effects.
Ewa Poleszak et al., 2018 and García-Gutiérrez et al., 2020 reported that the antidepressant activity of CBD in both animals and humans’ experiment [2,3] through the mechanism between serotonin and serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, which is similar to the modern antidepressant mechanism such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) group and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) group. Reabsorption of serotonin and noradrenalin results in increased levels of noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain [4]. Moreover, Amanda et al., 2018 studied the effect of CBD in combination with Fluoxetine (FLX: SSRIs drug group) and Desipramine (DES: TCAs drug group) In animal models. FLX (5 mg/kg) with CBD (7 mg/kg) was significantly more effective against antidepressants compared to CBD (7 mg/kg) or FLX (5 mg/kg) alone. Thus, the use of FLX alone has several side effects if the dosage can be reduced and partial-replaced with CBD but still alleviated, similar to antidepressant drugs. The side effects caused by using FLX could be decreased. However, the mechanism of CBD on the serotonin system and guidelines for use in patients require further study.
A study published in the journal Front Psychiatry in March 2022 reported analyzing data from 90 psychiatric patients treated with CBD. Most patients were satisfied with the use of CBD [5]. This study confirmed the effectiveness of CBD in relieving stress, reducing anxiety, and alleviating depression symptoms.
For safety and effectiveness, CBD usage for stress relief, depression, and improved sleep efficiency should be under expert supervision. Patients should buy high-quality CBD products that follow the standard, are trusted, and are legitimate to extract the best effectiveness and health benefits from CBD. Salus Bioceutical (Thailand) distributes various forms of premium-grade CBD, including CBD oil, pure CBD extract, and water-soluble powder, which has been certified by a reliable organization in Thailand with high-quality inspection by a specialized laboratory. Consumers can be confident in the high quality and convenience of various uses, which can accomplish the purpose of using CBD.
